Psychoanalyst and neuroscientist analyzes the situation
In 2023, at least eight women were victims of domestic violence every 24 hours. The data refers to eight of the nine states monitored by the Security Observatories Network (BA, CE, MA, PA, PE, PI, RJ, SP), according to information from Agência Brasil. In Espírito Santo, the number of assaults against women rose by 7.4% from 2022 to 2023, with a record of 21,941 cases of domestic violence compared to 20,431 cases in 2022.
According to psychoanalyst and neuroscientist Joseana Sousa, it is crucial to address this issue that permeates the lives of many women today. It is a difficult reality to face, but it is my mission to help women understand that they do not need to and should not accept such a situation.
“Domestic violence is a shadow that hangs over many homes, often hidden behind closed doors and forced smiles. It is a cycle of physical, emotional, and psychological abuse that destroys the self-esteem and mental health of the victims. An unacceptable situation when we stop to think that we live in the 21st century and have already achieved so many advances in the female sphere,” points out Joseana.
However, for the woman who lives this situation, I recognize that it is difficult to break free from it; the journey can be complex, but we are here to offer support, guidance, and above all, hope that it is indeed possible to escape this bind,” she says.
For Joseana, those who go through this and manage to break free need support to start anew, to move forward, family, friends, a support network that offers strength and security for the path ahead. For those who have not experienced this misfortune, it is necessary to encourage them to never even consider going through such humiliation. “We must recognize that we deserve more. To be treated with respect, compassion, kindness, to live without fear, without anxiety, to be free to be who we are, without being diminished or controlled by another person,” she emphasizes.
