Flu vaccination has begun, the most common one, scientifically known as Influenza or H1N1 in our state. The question always arises whether this vaccine, in addition to protecting against the flu, can also be effective against Covid-19. According to pulmonologist Jessica Polese, this is a constant doubt among patients and is always denied by all professionals. “We have always been asked and had no concrete information about it,” she states. However, recent studies from the ‘American Journal of Infection Control’ – a scientific journal that publishes articles on epidemiology, infection control, and infectious diseases – have shown that Influenza vaccination reduces hospitalization for Covid. “Research has concluded that in addition to this reduction, if someone is hospitalized, it reduces the need for mechanical ventilation and the co-infection of Covid and Influenza,” explains the pulmonologist, who also emphasizes: “There is also a reduction in Covid infection in patients with Acute Respiratory Syndromes.”
