The Ministry of Health launched a campaign at the end of February to encourage vaccination in the country. The "National Movement for Vaccination. Vaccine is life. Vaccine is for everyone" aims to recover the vaccination culture in the country, which has declined in recent years. The mobilization includes the new vaccine against Covid-19, the bivalent one.
"The bivalent vaccine, as the name suggests, can combat the variants of the virus. It protects against the original strain of the Coronavirus and its subvariants, such as Omicron," explains pneumologist and sleep medicine specialist, Jessica Polese.
This vaccine, manufactured by Pfizer, has been used in the United States and Europe since the second half of last year. "Over there, the population has already been immunized, and now it is important for immunization here in the country," says the doctor.
"For at-risk groups and the elderly, vaccination is essential to protect against virus mutations; after all, the severe period of the pandemic is over, but Covid is not," warns the doctor.
And regarding safety, Jessica makes it clear that one can get vaccinated without worry. "Vaccines against Covid will be part of our vaccination system like the influenza vaccine and many others that prevent diseases," she explains.
