UniãoES raises over 21,100kg of food

FOCO, CUFA and Juntos ES collaborate in the initiative that benefits families and institutions in the state during the pandemic

The União ES movement, created to help the residents of Espírito Santo who need support for basic survival during this pandemic period, managed to raise 21,100kg of animal protein and 1,250 basic food baskets with cleaning and personal hygiene kits, which were passed on to JuntosES and CUFA. The donations were made by BRF, a Brazilian multinational in the food sector, and the Coca-Cola Foundation.The initiative came from various civil society groups, including entrepreneurs and institutions, such as the Otacílio Coser Foundation (FOCO), which works on strengthening the link between communities, schools, and businesses. According to Ana Paula Carvalho, coordinator of the Sustainable Community Program at FOCO, in this action, the foundation ​contributed ​to the coordination with BRF.

As partners in the project, JuntosES, a network of third sector institutions, and the Central Única das Favelas (CUFA) were responsible for the registrations and deliveries to the 13 institutions and 750 families from cities in Greater Vitória such as Fundão, Serra, Vila Velha, Viana, Muqui, and Guarapari, as well as in the interior of the state, who benefited from this initiative.

According to FOCO's superintendent, Ana Roth, even with the easing of social isolation, many people who lost their sources of income have not yet managed to recover economically. "At this moment, the action of civil society organizations, companies, and the state is even more necessary to ensure support and resources to those in need. Our efforts are directed towards what is most urgent, that is, in addition to seeking resources, we are now primarily acting as technical support. This mutual aid between institutions is essential for this humanitarian network to continue to exist,” she explains.
