Winter has arrived, and during quarantine, laziness knocks at our door, whether due to the milder weather or spending more time at home. Sedentary behavior is a health risk factor, and the tip is to keep moving. According to physical educator and personal trainer Leonardo Pereira, now is the time to exercise: “In times of viruses in the air, muscle movement increases heart rate, which consequently makes immune cells circulate more throughout the body, thus increasing our defense, or in other words, boosting our immunity,” the professor assures.
“Moreover, for those who want to exercise and reduce calories, winter is the best time, as it is a period when we sweat less; thus, with physical activities, your metabolism increases, and the energy expenditure to maintain body temperature balance is greater, which can increase the number of calories burned,” Pereira highlights. To complement this caloric expenditure, it is worth investing in a good diet, seeking less fatty and healthier foods. “Just physical activity doesn’t work miracles; for those seeking health and weight loss, it is important to eat correctly and without excesses,” he concludes. In times of Coronavirus, the physical educator suggests outdoor activities with all safety protocols.
