The year 2020 has been difficult for many due to this pandemic. For natural hair therapist Paula Breder, it is a process that humanity needed to go through. “I have taken it to the positive side and I have several projects in my area that I couldn't stop,” she says. One of the trends that the therapist has been talking about since the beginning of the year is the search for natural hair, which has become a factor among many women and celebrities during the period of social isolation.
“We have had several examples such as actress Juliana Paes, who embraced her curls and took several photos with her natural hair; singer Manu Gavassi, who as soon as she left a reality show said she wanted to return to her natural hair, which is straightened; and presenter Maisa Silva, who also adopted natural hair, in addition to actress Erika Januza's testimony this week on a TV show where she said that ‘she started her transition a few years ago because of a role she played and had to cut her hair, and that she is very happy with the decision and that it was a change from the inside out’,” Paula shares.
“Here, with the time spent at home and the closure of businesses in general and beauty salons, many women have embraced their curls, and now that we have returned to work, we have received several clients who want to undergo hair transition,” Paula states.
“Hair transition is a phase that goes beyond aesthetics; it starts internally, from within. Having two different hair textures, waiting for growth, not knowing whether to wear it up or down is complicated, but it is useful. The transition is a break, thus it requires patience, dedication, and a lot of self-love,” Paula explains.
The treatment includes specific creams for hair recovery, with plenty of hydration and specific treatments. “We produce natural hair products that are free of petroleum derivatives, silicones, and preservatives, made with plants and natural substances perfect for curls,” says the hair therapist, who suggests a reflection:
“In the current moment we are experiencing, where flags are being raised by us black people, we need to relearn how to look at ourselves in the mirror, to embrace our personality and our essence, and to set aside the notion that straight hair is more beautiful and healthy; that is out of fashion and no longer the standard.”

Natural Hair Therapist, Paula Breder is the creator of the philosophy and products that bear her name. A mentor of the first naturalist space in the State, a woman, and black, Paula straightened her hair - as most black women did - with all the options available on the market, when after 25 years, she decided to discover the true texture of her hair. Thus, after much study, she became self-taught in phytotherapy and created beauty products for hair, such as shampoos, hair masks, gel, hair serum, sanitizer, among others. With this work, she began to influence other women through her own stance. Today she runs Paula Breder Fitocosméticos do Brasil, and her philosophy is spread throughout Brazil, with two locations in Greater Vitória, one in Vitória and another in Vila Velha.
