Among the skin treatments for combating wrinkles, sagging, melasma, scars, and photoaging, there are various common techniques such as laser, peeling, botulinum toxin, among others.

Currently, one of the procedures that has drawn attention in the dermatological field is the “Drug Delivery.” The technique facilitates the penetration of active ingredients into the skin when associated with other procedures.

“It’s as if we prepare the skin to receive treatments at deeper layers, offering the opportunity for a more effective result,” says dermatologist Karina Mazzini.

According to the Brazilian Society of Dermatology (SBD), Drug Delivery allows for the effective delivery of therapeutic molecules to various targets in the skin. The stratum corneum (the most superficial layer of the skin) is the most important barrier and the limiting factor in the penetration of active ingredients. To give an idea of the capacity of this barrier, only about 0.03% of a topically applied product can reach the deeper layers. “Thus, the treatment technique has managed to overcome these barriers, and the modernity of the device offers us endless possibilities of functions, such as how many shots (applications) we will make on the skin, the dosage, speed, mode, everything related to the product that will be applied to the patient, such as hyaluronic acid, for example,” explains Karina.

According to the dermatologist, ‘Drug Delivery’ should be performed in conjunction with other procedures to achieve the desired effect of the treatment chosen by the patient. “It is ideal to associate Drug Delivery with Laser, Microneedling, Radiofrequency to deliver the medication in a more concentrated manner, thus we also benefit from the additional advantage of stimulating the production of new cells, collagen fibers, and elastin,” points out Karina. During this period when many are at home and the weather is milder, performing the procedure becomes ideal, as we suggest that the patient stays at least one day at home after the treatment,” she concludes.
