In the "intention" and "intensão" of showcasing her experiments, recent research, and current work moment, artist Samira Pavesi opens her new solo exhibition in her studio at Praia do Canto, with curation and critical text by carioca Daniela Avellar. Named 'Intensão', the exhibition presents new works in different media and a diversity of materials, from ceramics to iron, wood, paper, plastic, in addition to painting. The vernissage for invited guests takes place this Thursday, June 20, and the exhibition opens to the public on June 21, remaining free for visitation until July 5. Especially this Saturday, June 22, at 9 am, there will be a guided tour with the artist and the curator, who is already in Vitória for the exhibition setup. In this exhibition, we can notice some woven forms and certain entanglements in the visual repertoire brought by Samira. The use of distinct materialities, focusing on elements found or collected in the environments of the cities the artist has passed through, is highlighted. At the beginning of her career, the artist's production was marked by a figurative visuality that gradually, and organically, gained degrees of abstraction. After two residencies abroad, Samira experimented with new materials and delved deeper into the universe of planes and dimensions.
“I feel my work increasingly moving off the canvas to gain other dimensions, and those who visit the exhibition will notice this transition in the use of materials and supports. The influence of the moment that expands and contracts my gestures and the tension of the process are explored to the fullest,” explains Samira.
The containment screen is one of the central elements used by the artist in this exhibition, which paradigmatically are always protecting or surrounding something and, at the same time, in the empty spaces of her grid, the movements in and out, the passages of air and light, and the interaction between fullness and emptiness are continuous. The presence of certain weavings, which are present in different configurations in the works presented, evokes something that relates to what is of a very intimate order for each of us, calling the body to a sensation that is often subtle but capable of activating memories regarding situations of welcome, care, repression, and restriction.
According to curator Daniela Avellar, Samira Pavesi does not like to assign a very closed meaning to her creations. What matters is precisely the ambiguous, the intention of opening multiple paths through which these forms appear. “It is equally interesting the freedom of creating as experimentation. There is an abstraction that is something of the making itself, related to different possibilities that open up through an interest in the breadth through form: the cut of ceramics, the cut of paper, the watering of the figure in the abstraction of painting,” she adds.

The solo exhibition also features a paper installation with texts written by the artist herself, which promises to be one of the highlights of the exhibition, as well as a site-specific work, that is, a piece made and designed for the exhibition space.
