Promising anti-inflammatory and anti-rheumatic action, the consumption of prednisolone is commonly indicated for pain treatment. But a new study confirms that the medication deteriorates the joint and does not work for pain relief.
"Among patients with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis, compared to intra-articular saline, there was a significantly greater loss of cartilage volume and no significant difference in knee pain," says the conclusion of the study.
Neurologist, Anesthesiologist, and Pain Specialist, Ramon D 'Ângelo Dias, explained that the survey is a randomized clinical trial titled "Effect of intra-articular triamcinolone versus saline," published by the American Medical Association. "It confirms that the use of the medication accelerates cartilage degradation. This research was directed towards the use of the medication in treating knee pain," he clarified.
Therefore, according to him, it is essential to seek professional help to treat pain. "Avoid self-medication and be wary of miraculous treatments that offer almost immediate relief," he warned.
