The world of plastic surgery encompasses various parts of our body, and surgeries are used for both aesthetic and well-being purposes. The fact is that with the advancement of technology, it is now possible to perform operations that we could not even imagine before, and one surgery that has seen a lot of demand is female intimate surgery. According to data from the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), Brazil holds the world record for labioplasty surgeries, followed by the United States. In Brazil, 20,334 procedures were performed, while in the U.S., there were 13,697 in 2020.
According to plastic surgeon Humberto Pinto, labioplasty, also known as nymphoplasty, is the reduction of the vaginal lips. "Vaginal rejuvenation is a simple surgery that we perform through a small incision on the vaginal lips, removing excess tissue and improving asymmetry," he explains.
Among the reasons for seeking the surgery, in addition to aesthetic concerns, there may be discomfort caused by changes due to pregnancy and hormones. The doctor emphasizes that, in addition, with female empowerment, taboos have been broken, and today women have more access to information and are more aware of their bodies. The intimate area can also become bothersome over time. "The increase in the size of the labia, skin laxity, and sagging skin over the clitoris are the main complaints from women, and beyond aesthetics, many suffer from low self-esteem, embarrassment with their partners, and these factors can even harm their sexual lives," the doctor explains.
In addition to labioplasty, there are other options for intimate surgeries tailored to individual needs. "We have lipoenxertia, which addresses the loss of vaginal contours, the reduction of the mons pubis (located above the pubis), an area that often receives complaints for having too much volume. The reduction of this area can be done through liposuction, clitoroplasty, which is a more delicate surgery that can be performed to remove excess skin in the area and expose the clitoris more. There is also the reconstruction of the organ when there are issues causing it to enlarge, and perineoplasty, which can be performed on women who have experienced changes in the vagina due to childbirth or other muscle tears, leading to urinary incontinence," Humberto reports.
The doctor warns that these surgeries have a quick recovery, and each case will be analyzed and indicated according to individual circumstances.
