Dentist points out which care is essential for maintaining health
New data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) on the age distribution of the country shows that the life expectancy of Brazilians has increased. Between 2012 and 2022, the share of people aged 60 and over in the population rose from 11.3% to 15.1%, while the share of those under 30 decreased.
With the increase in life expectancy, health and wellness care have become common among individuals over 60 years old.
“We see elderly people in good spirits, engaging in physical activities, taking care of their diet, and being more concerned about their appearance than a few years ago,” says Dentist, Master in Implantology, Dr. Marlei Bonella.
Regarding oral health, one of the most sought-after services by them is dental implants. “Over time, tooth loss occurs due to various factors, and dental implants are the most modern and permanent solution to replace missing teeth. It consists of placing a small titanium screw in the maxillary bone, which will serve as the artificial root of the tooth, onto which the dental prosthesis is fixed,” says Marlei.
The dentist emphasizes that in addition to self-esteem, taking care of teeth improves overall health: “The presence of healthy teeth improves chewing, and consequently breathing, prevents loss of appetite, bruxism, insomnia, and irritability, etc. Furthermore, it can help reduce symptoms of depression, as restoring a smile enhances self-esteem and psycho-emotional conditions. Patients feel better and more confident.
