Doctors give tips on how to keep skin hydrated and glowing during the colder seasons

Cold days are gradually approaching, and just like the rest of our body, our skin has been feeling this change. In the autumn and winter seasons, it is common to notice drier skin and even flaking. During these times, dermatologists warn about the importance of maintaining some special care and adapting the skincare routine.

Dermatologist Karina Mazzini demystifies the idea that oily skin is synonymous with hydrated skin; according to her, many skins sometimes produce more sebum due to lack of hydration. However, on cold days, with reduced sweating, it is common for even the oiliest skin to become drier. According to her, the reduction in water intake and very hot showers, which become more frequent in winter, worsen the dryness of the dermis. "That's where the danger lies, because the skin starts to flake and can even lead to a case of dermatitis," warns Karina.

For the doctor, the first step to combat dry skin is to maintain body hydration. "Hydrating the skin is a universal care and must be done both from the inside and the outside. It is necessary to drink plenty of water and always include a good moisturizer in the skincare routine," the doctor adds, noting that depending on the skin type, it may be necessary to invest in a more potent moisturizer during the colder seasons. "Generally, in summer, most people use lighter, gel-based creams with more watery formulas. In winter, it is sometimes necessary to switch to a creamier moisturizer and a gentler soap," she emphasizes and reminds that these skincare changes should be made according to a dermatologist's recommendation.

For those seeking more immediate results, the dermatologist recommends some procedures. Among the collagen biostimulators, Karina highlights a substance based on 100% pure hyaluronic acid. "It is great because it has the same hyaluronic acid as our skin, does not volumize because it is not for filling, and still makes the skin more radiant, hydrated, and firm, as it stimulates collagen."

Another recommendation from the dermatologist is the Thulium Laser, which, according to studies in the field, the result of one session is equivalent to 30 days of skincare. "It improves skin quality, makes it more radiant and beautiful, and also softens spots." For the lips, which often suffer from skin dryness, she recommends light applications of filler with hyaluronic acid.

Doctor Renata Melo also emphasizes that with some care at home, it is possible to minimize dryness, and never forget to drink water constantly and use sunscreen, which many also neglect. "It is important to use sunscreen, even with milder sunlight; we cannot forget about the artificial lights we come into contact with every day, such as lamps, computer screens, and cell phones. In addition, avoid sponges in the shower and exfoliating creams during this season and make the most of moisturizer." Regarding treatments, the doctor suggests options like laser, Microneedling with active infusion, and peels: This is the perfect time to remove sunspots and undergo treatments to bring radiance to the skin."
