Specialist explains why the colder months favor post-operative recovery and which procedures are most sought after during this period With the arrival of autumn and the milder temperatures of winter ahead, many people take advantage of this time of year to undergo surgical interventions with more comfort and safety. According to the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (SBCP), procedures have increased by about 50% during this period. According to plastic surgeon Dr. Humberto Pinto, a member of the SBCP, the colder weather favors post-operative recovery, reducing the risks of swelling and providing more tranquility in the use of compression garments, meshes, and dressings. “During autumn and winter, it is easier to maintain the necessary rest, wear appropriate clothing during the post-operative period, and avoid sun exposure, which can cause stains and harm the results of the surgery, in addition to the heat that can be quite uncomfortable for patients,” explains the specialist. Among the most sought-after procedures during this period are liposuction and HD lipo, indicated for those who wish to redefine their body contour before summer arrives; breast augmentation or reduction, which requires specific care regarding sun exposure during recovery; and abdominoplasty, for those with excess skin in the abdominal area, especially after pregnancy or significant weight loss. Another highly sought-after procedure is blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery, indicated for those seeking a discreet and effective facial rejuvenation. In addition to comfort, this period also favors planning. According to the doctor, many patients choose to undergo procedures between June and August to be fully recovered by spring and summer, times more conducive to body exposure. “More important than the season, however, is the choice of a qualified plastic surgeon and adherence to medical guidelines. Each patient has their recovery time, and safety always comes first,” he emphasizes.
