The InfoGripe Bulletin, released by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) on the last day 04, indicated an increase in the number of children hospitalized for respiratory viruses in 15 Brazilian states, including Espírito Santo.
It is very common at this time of year for respiratory diseases to increase, as stated by Pneumologist and Sleep Medicine Specialist, Jessica Polese: “As we are in autumn and moving towards winter, this is a period when we have a higher incidence of flu, allergies such as rhinitis, sinusitis, in addition to pneumonia,” she points out.
The drier climate and milder temperatures cause this higher incidence of viruses. “We recommend that if the child has flu symptoms or another respiratory infection, they should not go to school or daycare to avoid contamination,” warns the doctor.
In addition to children, people with low immunity and the elderly tend to get infected, so it is very important to get vaccinated. “The influenza vaccination campaign is already open, and the elderly, children, and other groups can already get vaccinated; this protection is very important, and we must not forget to complete the vaccination schedule regarding Covid-19, which still infects some people,” the doctor emphasizes. Dr. Jessica also reminds us that it is important to wash hands, avoid closed environments, try to keep them ventilated, and eat well.
