In carpeted environments, the amount of dust floating in the air is lower than in spaces with cold flooring. Additionally, carpets contribute to better acoustic comfort and sound impact insulation
After all: are carpets friends or foes of allergic individuals? This is a constant question among those who wish to apply this item at home or in the office. However, they are not villains at all. Research has already proven that carpets do not cause allergic reactions, being perfectly suitable for individuals with this type of intolerance. The main problem lies in the lack of cleaning and maintenance, which most people do not follow according to the manufacturers' guidelines. And there's more: according to Michelle Borba, technical specification architect at Belgotex Brazil, an international reference brand in carpets and flooring solutions, contrary to popular beliefs, one of the most important aspects we should highlight is the contribution of carpets to improving indoor air quality. Research has shown surprising results in this regard, making it a crucial factor for environments where the health and well-being of individuals are priorities. This information is confirmed by studies conducted by renowned international organizations, including ARCAA, CRI Green Label Plus, ABNT, and the Carpet Institute of Australia. "As industry specialists, we are committed to clarifying the widespread misunderstanding that still surrounds the use of carpets, as well as combating the falsehoods that harm their reputation. One of the main concerns raised by many people is the possible allergy associated with this type of flooring. However, it is essential to clarify that the main cause of allergies is dust mites, and our carpets are made with high-tech synthetic fibers, making their presence impossible," she explains.
But is carpet better than cold flooring? According to Ilma Mendonça, co-owner of Master Office Design, a reference store in corporate furniture in Vitória, it is not a matter of being better or not; each serves its purpose, but the issue is to demystify the carpet as a villain. In fact, the amount of dust floating in the air is lower than in spaces with flooring such as porcelain tiles or vinyl. With carpets, the dust is trapped in the fibers until it is vacuumed, making it less harmful than floating around the house.

And the businesswoman warns about the importance of regular cleaning and proper maintenance of the carpet, which makes all the difference and is essential to ensure a healthy environment and minimize allergens. "You should vacuum at least twice a week. In places with higher foot traffic, the cleaning frequency should be greater. It is also recommended that the cleaning and maintenance instructions provided by the manufacturer be strictly followed to ensure the carpet's continued effectiveness," explains the specialist.
It is worth noting that there are also carpets on the market made with hypoallergenic fibers, which are treated to resist the accumulation of dust and mites, reducing the possibility of allergen retention. "Many of them are made with low-emission Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), which helps improve indoor air quality and reduce the risk of respiratory irritations. There are also those with antimicrobial treatments that help prevent the growth of bacteria, mold, and fungi, contributing to a healthier environment," she points out.

Another important advantage of carpets is their sound absorption and impact insulation capabilities. This attribute has been highly valued in projects that seek to provide comfort and privacy to occupants.
