Doctor explains the relationship with lung cancer
Following the death of journalist Glória Maria, many questions arose regarding brain metastasis, as it all started with lung cancer.
The pulmonologist and Sleep Medicine specialist, Jessica Polese, states that lung cancer is one of the most common types that lead to brain metastasis.
“Lung cancer is divided into three types: small cell tumors, which are more aggressive, non-small cell tumors that are less aggressive, and the most common, which is adenocarcinoma, that can develop brain metastases,” the doctor explains.
“Metastases are nothing more than cells from the tumor that spread throughout the body and replicate the disease in other organs, and in the case of lung cancer, in the brain, liver, and bones,” she points out.
Another point that the pulmonologist warns about is that metastasis can be asymptomatic, so it is important to be aware of symptoms that may arise such as body aches, headaches, seizures, shortness of breath, fever, vision problems, and unexplained weight loss.
