>> Today there are modern techniques and substances that do not harm health and provide excellent filling results.
PMMA (Polymethylmethacrylate), also known as Metacril, has already caused complications for many people and has even led to the death of several individuals. Unfortunately, it continues to be marketed, and there are still people who have the courage to use this product.
We spoke with plastic surgeon and member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery, Adriano Batistuta, who explained why we should talk about this issue and what other options are available for filling procedures that are not harmful to health.
Adriano stated that although PMMA is not prohibited, there are now suitable products for filling areas, such as hyaluronic acid, botulinum toxin, and silicone implants, which are safe for health, eliminating the need for PMMA.
Businesswoman and digital influencer Luciana Freire, 33, said she underwent a lip procedure with a professional who claimed to be in aesthetic medicine and did not know what was applied. Thirty days after the procedure, she noticed her lip was becoming crooked. After an imaging exam, it was identified that the product used was Metacril, which had encapsulated and settled on one side of her lip. She mentioned she is being monitored by a surgeon to try to remove the product.
Metacril is a synthetic product that can cause necrosis in individuals who have used it. "If we perform a silicone implant in the buttocks, for example, and if the body rejects it, we can remove it; PMMA cannot. It is very difficult to remove and causes significant damage to the tissue," the doctor said.
In the medium and long term, the use of this product can cause necrosis, inflammation, nodules, and even lead to death.
