Statistics don't lie. And these data do not refer only to Brazil. A survey conducted by the National Comorbidity Survey Replication (NCS-R) shows that the prevalence of this specific phobia is around 9.1% of American adults aged 18 and older. This would be equivalent to about 15 million people in the United States alone. In Brazil, only 8% can express themselves fully, and 60% of Brazilians are terrified of exposing themselves and speaking in public.

The act of public speaking ranks among the top fears of people worldwide. It even surpasses the fear related to financial problems, illnesses, and even death. This information was reported by the British newspaper Sunday Times.

According to writer and women's mentor Geanes Goularte, some believe it is a gift, but speaking in public and expressing oneself well is also a skill that can be acquired with proper techniques and training.

“To communicate well, it is important to develop not only speech but also body language, because our body does not just speak; it shouts, and it shouts loudly. People connect a lot with gestures. Always keeping your arms above your waist, gesturing, looking into people's eyes—this all brings credibility. Because those who do not look into the eyes cannot convey credibility. If you are in front of an audience, distribute your gaze; do not just look at one person or one corner. This way, you develop a much friendlier and more assertive verbal communication,” said Geanes.

Geanes also gave five tips for speaking well in public: stand tall in front of the audience, with your head held high, shoulders straight, weight evenly distributed on both feet, and always maintain eye contact with the audience.

The secret of communication is much more associated with how you present yourself than with what you say. For this reason, it is important to choose your words carefully; pay attention to your intonation, facial expressions, and posture.
