Many people took the test before enjoying the year-end festivities. But those who returned from trips or family gatherings should also take the test again for safety, even without showing symptoms.
The end of the year saw a record demand for COVID tests in laboratories, after all, many people took advantage of Christmas and New Year to travel or see relatives they hadn't seen in a long time, and wanted to promote these meetings safely. But for those who have already returned from their trips, did they take the test again?
According to Edson Mezadri Vieira, co-founder and general coordinator of Teste Covid Capixaba, which conducts COVID-19 detection tests in a drive-thru system in partnership with Laboratório Marcos Daniel at the former airport of Vitória, the 'boom' in testing at the end of the year does not correspond to the demand in January. Despite the great movement in seeking tests, the expectation was that more people would return to take the serological test or the rapid test to ensure they did not contract the virus during these gatherings and festivities.
“Most people do not take the test when they return from a trip or after days of gatherings with others. And that’s where the danger lies, as this person has been in contact with others and may have contracted the virus and be asymptomatic. Therefore, it is essential, even without symptoms, to take the test to ensure that you do not have the active virus and can safely return to your daily activities,” explains the businessman.
Vaccination and Carnival
The topic of the moment is the start of vaccination against COVID, which begins this Monday, the 18th, throughout Brazil.
However, Edson Mezadri Vieira, the general coordinator of Teste Covid Capixaba, warns that the same precautions must remain in place to prevent the disease, after all, it will take months for the entire population to be vaccinated. “People need to protect themselves, avoid crowds, maintain hygiene, and whenever necessary take the test for their own safety and that of others,” he explains.
In addition, there is one month left until the Carnival holiday, and even with parties canceled across Brazil, laboratories expect, just like at the end of the year, a new 'boom' in demand for tests. After all, many people will take advantage of the holiday to travel and hold intimate events among family and friends. “It is necessary to take the test before traveling and retake the exam upon returning to ensure that you do not have the active virus,” warns the coordinator of Teste Covid Capixaba.
Scheduling tests: trips abroad
Those traveling abroad should pay attention to the requirements and deadlines for proving a negative PCR test for COVID, required by most airlines and countries at check-in. “Here at Teste Covid Capixaba, many people schedule their tests 2 or 3 days before their trip to ensure the effectiveness of the result and meet the requirements of flights and destination countries. And the demand for this type of test remains high, as many residents of Espírito Santo are traveling this summer and enjoying some vacation in safe places and countries that are allowing the entry of foreigners,” explains Edson Mezadri Vieira.
