The trend of dark wood is increasingly gaining prominence in furniture and interior design

The use of traditional woods already has a guaranteed place in decoration; however, for this material to represent a novelty without losing its elegance and characteristics, the color black emerges as a strong trend to ensure exclusivity in projects. According to Di Fassarella, a businesswoman who runs the furniture showroom in Santa Lúcia, the trend of dark wood is a strong bet in furniture and interior design. Traditionally, wood is one of those elements that can convey a sense of comfort and warmth to environments, and ebony is no different. The latest edition of the Milan Furniture Fair in Italy highlighted the application of ebony in the architecture and decoration segment. With an elegant and sober appearance, this type of finish results from a diluted paint with black varnish, which does not cover the natural grains of the wood, as occurs with lacquer, and the finish can be glossy, semi-glossy, or matte, giving nobility and sumptuousness to the decorative item. “I have noticed the presence of ebony wood increasingly frequent in decoration, and I think it’s a great option for those who want wooden furniture but without the traditional brown tone. I believe this happens also because darker tones contrast well with other colors and elements. Moreover, it makes the space more elegant and charming,” explains Di. She also emphasizes that the trend is present in various environments of the Casa Aconchego Exhibition at the Conceito Sier showroom. The trend was used in the Poly Table, a dining table with an ebony wood veneer. “This tone is perfect for highlighting the furniture, especially because black brings sophistication and is easy to combine with other tones and textures, in addition to having the advantage of not getting dirty easily,” highlights the professional. Ebony can be found in other furniture and environments of the exhibition, such as in the table that makes up the “Family Dinner” space by Eliane Loss and in much of the furniture that shapes the “Living Room” signed by Leo Shehtman. Di Fassarella reinforces that furniture made of ebony prevents the appearance of dirt and permanent stains, in addition to giving a sophisticated touch to any space. “The natural veneer of ebony wood usually interacts well with other materials used in the project. Moreover, it is natural, cozy, and elegant, has various attractive features, and brings harmony and elegance to the environment,” completes the businesswoman.
