It is not new that many people associate the increase in appetite and the desire to eat more caloric foods with the drop in temperature, and yes, this is completely normal.
This can be explained by the fact that our body spends more energy to warm us up, and as a result, all this energy is directed from where it came, making us feel hungrier.
According to endocrinologist Gisele Lorenzoni, "this is not a problem or something abnormal, just a condition of the body to keep us satisfied," says the specialist.
This process of warming the body is known as thermogenesis, and all of this should be combined with a balanced diet, healthy habits, and not neglecting physical activities. "With this cold weather, it is more likely that people want to eat foods with more calories, such as pasta, sweets, and those that are more fattening, and therefore, care should be doubled," she says.
The doctor states that the effect of winter, with its short days and long nights, alters the body's metabolism and decreases the production of serotonin, the neurotransmitter hormone that promotes the feeling of well-being, and to compensate for all this, some people turn to food and more calories.
