Autumn has arrived – the intermediate season between summer and winter – with milder, yet drier weather and more pollution suspended in the air. How to take care of your skin during this post-summer period while already preparing for winter?
Dermatologist and Member of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology (SBD), Irene Baldi, explains that during this season, skin tends to become drier due to the weather and hotter baths. Therefore, it is essential to invest in good hydration. "Don’t forget to use moisturizer after bathing and when washing your face and hands," she warns. Ideally, it’s also best to avoid hot baths, although few comply with this request; however, the dermatologist suggests that at least the water should be warm, not completely hot.
Another tip is to be careful with the face, which is more sensitive, and to avoid washing it too many times a day to prevent further drying out the skin. Sunscreen should also not be forgotten.
"When summer ends, many people retire their sunscreen, which is the wrong attitude. It is necessary to continue using sunscreen in your routine, to protect against the sun's rays, even when they are milder, and from artificial light in the work environment," warns the dermatologist.
Treatments
Autumn is also a popular time to start treatments. According to the dermatologist, many patients wait until summer is over to treat spots, care for their skin, and undergo treatments.
"Facial treatments such as Laser, Peeling, Fillers with acids, Biostimulators, Microneedling, Thread treatments, among others, are perfect due to the reduction of the intensity of sunlight - which causes spots and pigmentation on the skin - thus, recovery is much better," emphasizes the dermatologist.
Body treatments to improve sagging, cellulite, and body contours are also highly sought after, especially because they can be done calmly, taking advantage of the milder weather for recovery and arriving in full swing for the next summer.
Hair Care in Autumn
Hairstylist Heyd Tex explains that this is the time to revitalize your hair. "For those who enjoyed summer at the beaches, pools, or even those who spent a lot of time in the tropical heat, getting plenty of sunlight and washing their hair more often, now is the time for revitalization," concludes Tex.
Revitalizing the strands means good reconstruction, investing in treatments to hydrate and bring back shine and softness. "We joke that it’s the time for a hair check-up, the moment to evaluate what will be needed: hydration, a color renewal, a specific treatment, etc.," says Tex.
The specialist also warns that autumn is an intermediate season where the weather becomes drier and milder, and pollution is more suspended in the air. Thus, more care is needed for hair cleaning. "Dryness and brittle ends can increase due to hotter baths and drier air, so a deeper cleaning and treatment protocols are necessary," points out Tex.
