The Federal Council of Medicine (CFM) reversed its recent decision and suspended the restriction on the use of cannabidiol-based medications, one of the compounds found in marijuana. According to the lawyer specializing in Business and Tax Law, Sandro Ronaldo Rizzato, with the suspension, it is up to each doctor to recommend the treatment. "The Federal Public Ministry (MPF) initiated a preparatory procedure to investigate the compatibility of the CFM Resolution and requested documents with scientific evidence from Anvisa, thus this was a kickstart for the decision," he says. "Other factors included protests from doctors and family members of patients who use the medication for the treatment of diseases such as epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and other pathologies, including the need to file numerous lawsuits for medicinal use," the lawyer states. For Rizzato, there are already several studies that prove the use of cannabidiol as therapy in assisting with diseases; however, the subject involves society, various points, and will still be widely discussed. "Those who use the medication still bear the high cost of importation, etc., so the topic remains under debate, and the CFM will open a new public consultation with popular participation, allowing suggestions to be submitted until December 23," he points out.
