Doctors give tips for enjoying the festivities The Carnival of Vitória 2023 takes place on February 10, 11, and 12, and for revelers who love to samba, watch the parades, and enjoy the VIP areas, it’s inevitable that the event goes into the early hours of the morning. And there’s no way around it; sleep is lost during the nights. So what can be done to recover? According to pulmonologist and sleep medicine specialist, Jessica Polese, a lost night of sleep is never fully recovered. Since the event lasts for several days, try to sleep after the lost night, even during the day, and ensure that the next night’s sleep is complete to replenish lost energy. “Eat well, stay hydrated, and when you go to catch up on sleep, have a sleep hygiene routine beforehand to ensure a perfect night, avoiding electronics, drinking tea, trying to relax, and aiming for the recommended eight hours of sleep,” the doctor points out. Endocrinologist Gisele Lorenzoni reminds us to preserve our health during the festivities and prepare for the samba season. “It’s worth starting to exercise to ensure good heart rate and energy levels, and during the event days, try to drink water, even if you’re consuming alcoholic beverages,” she emphasizes. “Don’t forget to eat well during the day and have a light meal at night before diving into the festivities,” she highlights. In addition to taking care of nutrition and getting a good night’s sleep, we must not forget about our skin. During the festivities, it’s common to flaunt powerful and heavy makeup. Dermatologist Karina Mazzini highlights some important care: "It’s always good to check the expiration dates of products and to use well-known and high-quality brands. Before starting your makeup, don’t forget to apply sunscreen during the day and moisturizer at night; this also helps the makeup to set better." Even if post-festivity fatigue tries to take over when arriving home, the dermatologist explains that removing makeup and cleansing the face before bed is essential. "Products on the skin clog pores, preventing the dermis from breathing properly during sleep." Karina Mazzini also comments that in the medium term, sleeping with makeup can lead to loss of skin viscosity and shine, as well as increased oiliness, which can cause acne.
