Hair extensions require a bit more dedication to avoid tangling and dryness. Experts discuss protection rituals for the locks. During summer, it is natural for hair to undergo more wear and tear. But hair extensions, known as mega hair, need even more care, as they tangle more easily, which can cause damage to the strands. On a daily basis, keeping the length of the hair hydrated with products that have UV protection already ensures a good result. However, when exposing the hair to excessive sun, sea water, or swimming pools, a more careful ritual is necessary. "At the beach or pool, a good tip is to tie the hair up. A loose bun or braid prevents the strands from tangling too much," explains mega hair and wig specialist Dirceu Paigel. Preparing for a swim already involves specific products to prevent damage. Shampoos and leave-ins with sodium thiosulfate, commonly used by swimmers, remove chlorine from the strands and prevent, in blonde hair, the famous greenish effect, according to Be Spa Urbano hair extension specialist Leonardo Branbati. "Another important tip is to wash the hair with fresh water as soon as you come out of the water, whether from the sea or the pool. This is a normal care that is necessary for any type of hair," points out Branbati. Upon returning from the beach or pool, it is very important to carefully wash the strands and the roots. Drying the roots is also an important step in finalizing care for those with mega hair. "One can let it dry naturally, but then it must be finished with a hairdryer at least at the roots," emphasizes the professional. The experts consulted explained that, with extensions made from high-quality adhesive tapes approved by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), there is no need to worry about the detachment of the mega hair.
