Recently, American model Bella Hadid stated in Vogue magazine that she regrets having undergone a rhinoplasty at the age of 14. The top model revealed that she wishes she had kept the nose of her ancestors, who are of Palestinian descent. However, negative comments and comparisons with her sister Gigi Hadid impacted Bella's self-esteem and led her to seek surgery.
According to plastic surgeon and Full Member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery, Humberto Pinto, plastic surgeries are highly sought after by teenagers and young adults, and it is clarified that the procedure is only possible with parental consent for those under 18. "According to research by the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (SBCP), from a census conducted in 2016, young people between 13 and 18 years old are increasingly seeking plastic surgeries," he says.
For the doctor, it is essential to evaluate the expectations and reasons for seeking the procedure. "Currently, with the technological universe becoming an increasingly integral part of everyone's life, especially after the peak of the pandemic, where social media played a role in bringing people closer together, a lot of information has been exchanged, and the phenomenon Tik Tok that promotes choreographies, among other trends, hits teenagers hard, and the search for a so-called perfect beauty has increased, with changes in appearance being highlighted," he explains.
Humberto emphasizes that "before making a decision, it is essential to evaluate the reasons for seeking surgery, considering the person's maturity both physically and psychologically," says the surgeon. Among the most sought-after surgeries are rhinoplasty (nose surgery); otoplasty (ear surgery); breast surgery; and liposuction.
