Since March, when the pandemic caused by the new coronavirus (Covid-19) began in Brazil, Google has detected a 4,800% increase in searches for information about rhinoplasty and the cost of the procedure. This growth in interest in the surgery, which removes tissue from the nose, shaping or reducing its size, can also be felt on social media, through some celebrities who shared their results after undergoing the procedure – such as former BBB Flayslane, singer MC Mirella, and singer Kevinho.
The plastic surgeon Fabrício Regiani notes that he has already seen the increase in his office and comments on some factors that have facilitated the performance of this type of surgery during this period. “The main factor, I believe, is that most people are working from home, which makes recovery easier. Additionally, we have seen an increase in online meetings during this period, leading to what is being called the ‘Zoom effect’, making it more evident what we want to change about our faces,” he lists.
The fact that the weather is more pleasant may also contribute to recovery. “This reduces sun exposure, which is not recommended after a surgical procedure as it increases swelling and hinders recovery and skin healing,” he advises. The doctor also emphasizes all the safety measures being taken due to the pandemic.
“We always opt to perform the surgery in hospitals that do not receive Covid-19 contaminated patients and are attentive to all necessary precautions to minimize the risk of contagion.
The specialist emphasizes that the searches have been for both aesthetic effects and to correct some respiratory dysfunction. “The fact that the technique has evolved significantly in recent years has also allowed for better results with more natural effects. This also sparks more interest in undergoing the procedure,” he comments.
New technologyRecently, another innovation was introduced in the field of rhinoplasty. The technique used by plastic surgeon Fabrício Regiani is performed with an instrument that has millimeter precision for cutting and shaping nasal structures to provide an even more satisfactory result for the patient. “This type of operation offers much greater precision, allowing for cuts in the bony part without affecting the tissues. Therefore, it reduces bleeding and also results in fewer bruises, swelling, and a more comfortable postoperative period,” he explains.
According to Fabrício Regiani, Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty presents many advantages, such as: less surgical trauma, greater precision, and better control of nasal elements during surgery, as well as less postoperative edema and more reliable long-term structuring, among other benefits. “The Piezo, which is the instrument used, has greatly increased surgical possibilities, including new grafts, better treatment of the septum, and refined techniques, such as osteoplasty (instead of traditional fractures). This way, it will be possible to achieve better results for a larger number of people and for a longer time,” he comments.
