The Architecture and Urbanism Council of Espírito Santo (CAU/ES) and the Institute of Architects of Brazil – Espírito Santo Department (IAB-ES) have joined forces in the project
"The Architect's Gaze on Cais das Artes", which is the theme of the first photography contest promoted by the Architecture and Urbanism Council of Espírito Santo (CAU/ES) and the Institute of Architects of Brazil – Espírito Santo Department (IAB-ES).
The IAB-ES + CAU/ES Photography Contest is aimed at architects registered with IAB-ES and registered with the Council, and registrations were opened on the last 12th and will continue until August 15th.
The institutional partnership aims to awaken appreciation and critical reflection on Cais das Artes - a project designed by Paulo Mendes da Rocha - which began in 2010 and has been halted since 2015, and is widely recognized for its importance as a cultural complex and what it can represent for the State in relation to the international tourism circuit.
According to the president of CAU/ES, Heliomar Venancio, the construction barriers obstruct the internal view of the structure and the natural scenery, giving the impression of a closed, restricted place. "The contest aims to bring other perspectives on Cais das Artes, about the grandeur and brilliance of this project that will change the reality of Espírito Santo, if used for its original purpose," he points out.
Up to three images taken at Cais das Artes can be submitted, with prior scheduling of the visit to the building on the already defined dates: July 23rd and August 6th and 20th. Scheduling should be done by calling IAB-ES at (27) 99733-3942. The images must be sent in digital format to the email secretaria@iab-es.org.br
The three best photos will receive cash prizes of R$ 4,000.00, R$ 1,500.00, and R$ 500.00 for first, second, and third place, respectively, and all submitted images will be displayed in an exhibition. The winners will be announced on September 15th. The main criteria for judging will be visual impact, originality, and mastery of technique and aesthetics.
"By promoting these new perspectives on Cais das Artes, CAU/ES and IAB-ES seek to stimulate public reflection on the project beyond an unfinished work, but rather about the transformation that architecture and culture can bring to Espírito Santo, reinforcing in the social imagination what Cais das Artes truly is, a public asset belonging to all capixabas," emphasizes Venancio.
The contest is organized by IAB, and CAU is the sponsor.
