According to the 2022 Census by IBGE, the total number of people aged 65 and older in the country (22,169,101) reached 10.9% of the population, an increase of 57.4% compared to 2010, when this group was 14,081,477, or 7.4% of the population. This increase is due to a slightly better quality of life that a portion of the elderly population has, along with care for nutrition, physical activity, and access to information.
According to plastic surgeon Humberto Pinto, the aging process has become increasingly healthy, and many individuals turn to plastic surgeries to feel better about themselves.
“Many less invasive procedures are sought after, including blepharoplasty - eyelid surgery that softens the gaze and makes the eyes appear more open; liposuction that enhances body contours; facial harmonization and mini liftings that give a ‘lift’ to specific areas of the face,” explains the doctor. Women tend to undergo these procedures more frequently and maintain a rejuvenated appearance naturally. “I also notice that many of them, when they reach menopause, feel the effects on their bodies and seek treatments to feel better about themselves, to improve their self-esteem,” points out the surgeon.
