According to the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (SBCP), more than 1.5 million aesthetic procedures are performed in Brazil every year. The search for aesthetic procedures also increases due to the arrival of summer, a period when many people have more time to organize themselves.
According to plastic surgeon Ariosto Santos, among the most sought-after surgeries during this period are breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, liposuction, and abdominoplasty. He states that during this time, the highest demand comes from students and teachers, but other groups are also in line for aesthetic procedures. "This happens because the holiday period is long and greatly aids in recovery," says the doctor.
Ariosto emphasizes that people who work in beauty salons also seek to improve their appearance. "In January, the flow of clients decreases, and they practically close to take advantage of the period to undergo plastic surgeries. Ariosto Santos explains that many patients prefer to come to the country for various reasons, such as cheaper treatments, more qualified professionals, and others. "Many people take advantage of their visit to the country to see relatives during the year-end festivities and also undergo an aesthetic procedure, as they will have support during recovery," he concludes.
Additionally, economic activity in the northern hemisphere decreases, which accelerates medical tourism in our economy. "In countries like the United States, for example, economic activity is lower due to the cold. And this year, it is even colder there. Thus, patients take advantage of coming to Brazil to undergo procedures here," the surgeon adds.
Post-surgical care
Ariosto Santos states that there are no impediments to having surgery during the summer; however, patients must pay attention to healing. "First and foremost, a person needs to know that they will need rest to recover faster. They should avoid going to the beach for some time. Even when using clothing that protects against sunlight or even sunscreen, it is important to ensure that the color of the scar is not compromised," he explains.
The doctor highlights that it will also be necessary to wear a compression garment or a specific bra for recovery. "The accessory causes discomfort, so it is essential to inform the patient before the surgery to ensure proper rest and avoid places with a lot of people, such as concerts, for example," he states.
The surgeon emphasizes that with all these precautions, recovery will certainly be complete, and the results will be satisfactory. "Patients just need to plan for this. One should not think that because it is vacation, they can enjoy it as if they were not operated on. Organization, planning, and adjustment are necessary," Ariosto concluded.
