According to plastic surgeon and member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (SBCP) Humberto Pinto, the “Mommy Makeover” is a combination of procedures indicated for women after childbirth, which include the most requested corrections by them.
“It generally involves breasts, abdomen, thighs, hips, and waist,” says the doctor. During pregnancy and childbirth, a woman's body undergoes several changes, such as weight gain, stretching of the abdominal skin, breast sagging, and fat in unwanted areas, so they come to the office with a desire for a complete remodeling,” states the surgeon.
Common procedures performed in a Mommy Makeover include: Abdominoplasty, Mastopexy, and Liposuction. “Abdominoplasty will remove the excess skin and fat from the abdomen that bothers women after pregnancy. Most complaints are from this area and the procedure is the most indicated,” he points out.
Additionally, the doctor says that breasts are also the top complaint, especially from breastfeeding mothers, who complain of sagging, loss of support, etc.,” reports the doctor.
In this case, Mastopexy is ideal, “as it lifts and reshapes sagging breasts, removing excess skin and repositioning the areola and nipple,” explains Humberto. Liposuction, on the other hand, removes unwanted localized fat.
It is important to emphasize that the Mommy Makeover is a personalized procedure, and the surgeries performed may vary according to the individual needs and desires of the patient. The recommended time after childbirth for performing the procedures together is one year after delivery, also recommended by the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (SBCP).
