The presenter Ana Hickmann turned 40 in March and, radiating beauty, reported in several interviews that she is very happy, mature, but that 'gravity' has arrived, and one of the things she intends to do is a plastic surgery to replace her silicone implants. For those who don't know, silicone implants in women who have breastfed, or after a certain time, have an expiration date. “When women breastfeed, their breasts grow and can change the shape of the silicone, or weight changes can also influence,” explains plastic surgeon and full member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (SBPC), Humberto Pinto. In the case of the artist, she has already had experience with the scalpel, and for those who have never had and dream of a surgical procedure? According to the doctor, each case is evaluated to realize the desired dream. “Some may judge that plastic surgery is just an aesthetic resolution, forgetting the patient's self-esteem factor,” he states. “When I'm asked if there is a right age for performing procedures, I respond that we will evaluate each case – with the caveat of minors and cases of accidents, of course,” ponders the surgeon.

Thus, we will have patients who will undergo surgery to feel better, such as rhinoplasty – performed on the nasal structure, which can have an aesthetic effect or improve breathing; others who seek a better body – localized fat that takes time to disappear with age and in some cases weight gain that can affect health – an otoplasty – highly sought after due to discomfort with ears, among others. “After undergoing these types of surgeries, the patient feels more complete, happy, and their self-esteem rises, helping them in their daily routine to feel happy and complete,” reports the plastic surgeon.

Plastic surgeon Jefferson Vaccari, also a full member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (SBCP), reminds us that plastic surgeries can also be reconstructive in cases of burns, tumor removals, and accidents of various causes. "Plastic surgery is in favor of self-esteem. Even with small external changes, it is possible to allow the development of a strong and positive self-image," he asserts.

Dr. Humberto Pinto recalls that Brazilians are very vain and like to take care of themselves, to be happy, so much so that the country has already surpassed the United States in the number of plastic surgeries, according to research released by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), published in December 2019. “According to the research, more than 1 million and 498 thousand surgeries were recorded throughout the country, a significant number,” highlights the surgeon.

“Regarding the pandemic, Humberto reports that last year small interventions were performed when permitted, all with the necessary care and following all sanitary protocols, and besides that, emergency surgeries were also performed. Now we just have to wait for everything to improve and for us to return to service soon, and for more vaccines to arrive,” states the surgeon.
