Brazil's Carnival starts here
Amid the global pandemic, various events that gather hundreds of people have been canceled due to social distancing and the lack of a remedy or vaccine against the Coronavirus. However, for those who make and live from the Carnival of Vitória, the event that brings together thousands of people is confirmed. According to the president of the Independent League of Samba Schools of the Special Group (LIESGE), Edvaldo Teixeira, one of the largest events of the capixaba culture is maintained and will take place on February 4, 5, and 6, 2021.
“We are meeting with hope that by the end of the year this pandemic issue will be resolved and that we will start 2021 with a new perspective,” says Teixeira. Regarding rumors that the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro may be postponed, Edvaldo says that the event here in Vitória is much smaller. “Our event is much smaller, in terms of structure, boxes, audience; in Rio de Janeiro, the capacity of the Sambadrome is much larger than ours, so we trust in the realization,” he explains.
This year, some dates for the drawing of parades, presentation of samba enredo, and selection of the Royal Family have been set to be held virtually.
The events are:
- 08/08/2020 - Drawing of the Parade Order
- 06/11/2020 - Presentation of the Samba Enredos
- 04/12/2020 - Selection of the Royal Family
- 25 to 31/01/2021 - Technical Rehearsals
For Edvaldo, the realization of the Carnival of Vitória 2021 is very important: “For the lovers of capixaba samba, for the associations, and the entire universe that exists behind it that works and strives to bring the Samba Schools to the avenue, in addition to the prestige that the capixaba people give to the event, we are also counting on tourists.”
