A mobility app exclusively for women arrives in the metropolitan region of Greater Vitória. Lady Driver, which has been in Brazil for 6 years, has already started registering women drivers interested in providing the service, which will serve only the female audience in Greater Vitória. Men? Only as companions of the passenger. “One of the service's differentiators is the safety of both the passenger and the driver,” says entrepreneur Stephânia Sousa, one of the partners of the franchise in Greater Vitória. “It reduces the risk of a woman suffering any type of harassment or violence,” adds fellow entrepreneur and partner Andréa Pedroni.
They point out another differentiator in Lady Driver: the scheduling of rides, which does not exist in other apps. “As a customer, I don’t need to go out on the street; I can plan for the places I need to go in advance,” explains Andréa. According to the partners, women drivers who have a category B driver's license with EAR (Exerce Atividade Remunerada), an Android phone, a car from 2011 or newer, with 4 doors, 5 seats, and air conditioning can register.
Stephânia Sousa explains that there is no selection process; just download the app and register. After that, the drivers will receive periodic training. “We guarantee 75% of the ride value for the driver, who will have flexible hours, and with the scheduling service, she can plan her time,” she says. In addition, an important aspect is that the ride value – unlike other apps that calculate from the boarding point – in Lady Driver, the value is calculated from the acceptance of the ride by the driver. “This way, the drivers do not lose time or money on the route to pick up passengers. They are being paid the whole time,” asserts Andréa Pedroni. Currently, there are already more than 65,000 drivers working with Lady Driver in Brazil.
“With this source of income, they gain their financial independence, which can help reduce the rates of domestic violence against women,” says Stephânia Sousa. The proposal of Lady Driver, according to Andréa Pedroni, is to show women that they can move around safely and provide income to the driver. Everyone wins.
The app is not yet operational for passengers. “The moment now is to register the drivers. As soon as we have enough registrations to ensure good service delivery, we will start serving,” comments Andréa Pedroni. The forecast is that the service will start later this year. After consolidating the app for women in Greater Vitória, the partners' proposal is to expand the service, in a second phase, to “Lady Kiddos” (scheduled transport for children aged 8 to 16) and “Lady Care” (scheduled transport for the elderly and people with limited mobility).
