"Rap is commitment!", as Sabotage used to say. And she is proof of that. After a stunning performance at Formemus and winning two trophies at the 1st Capixaba Music Award, Afronta MC is ready to shake up Brazilian stages. And that will happen on September 17 and 18, at the Yalodê Festival in Brasília.
The "Loba" will represent Espírito Santo at the international music festival featuring a lineup exclusively of Black women. This year, the event announces spring, bringing dreams and hope for better days. The festival is free and will take place in the outdoor area of the National Museum of the Republic.
Afronta MC is the first trans rapper from Capixaba music to carve out her space in the Brazilian music market, and her performance at the Yalodê Festival marks this milestone: it will be her first show outside of ES. Afronta will take to the stage on Sunday with DJ Úrsula and the dancers from "Casa das Boneketys," Ronalda and Matysha. The production is by Simone Marçal and Daniel Morelo from MM Projetos Culturais.
"Yalodê," a word of Yoruba origin, means one who leads women in the city, or the owner of great feminine power. Also on the list of powerful women at the festival are the Bahian artists Nêssa and Margareth Menezes, the São Paulo artist Fabiana Cozza, the Minas Gerais artist Bia Nogueira, and the Honduran-Brazilian Indiana Nomma.
