Vitamin D has increasingly stood out as a fundamental nutrient in the treatment of autoimmune diseases. Its deficiency is often associated with the development and worsening of these conditions, as stated by nutritionist and autoimmune disease specialist Rayanne Pimentel.
Scientific studies indicate that vitamin D plays a crucial role in modulating the immune system, acting in the regulation of inflammatory responses and in the prevention of uncontrolled autoimmune reactions.
The deficiency of vitamin D is common in patients with autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and multiple sclerosis. “Ideally, these individuals should have adequate levels of vitamin D through regular sun exposure and, when necessary, supplementation. Vitamin D helps reduce inflammation, improve immune response, and decrease the risk of symptom exacerbation,” explains Rayanne.
