‘Reserva Arte’ Project Begins Scheduling for Public Schools in Espírito Santo for Educational Visits to the Parque Cultural Reserva Vitória

 

With the mediation of educators, in 2023 more than 1000 children and adolescents experienced artistic activities in the space through creative and pedagogical activities. Municipal and state schools can now schedule free visits for 2024

The ‘Reserva Arte’ Project kicks off the 2024 season and opens scheduling for educational visits to the Parque Cultural Reserva Vitória, a public space located behind Shopping Vitória. In 2023, the project, which started in May, brought over 1000 public school students to experience artistic activities in the space through creative and pedagogical activities. With the mediation of educators, the project encourages children and adolescents to engage in discussions about contemporary art, with educational proposals that are playful, practical, and creative, bringing students closer to the artistic processes involved in art today, as well as reinforcing the relationship between the Park, art, and the city, which ranges from understanding public spaces as cultural spaces to notions of heritage and citizenship. The educational visits of ‘Reserva Arte’ are free and must be scheduled in advance, taking place from Monday to Friday, in the morning or afternoon, for school groups from Early Childhood Education, Elementary and High Schools of the municipal and state public network. The project will run until November 2024, and scheduling can be done via email parquereservavitoria@gmail.com. The project is carried out by the Associação dos Moradores e Amigos da Reserva Vitória – AMARV in partnership with the Matias Brotas Contemporary Art Gallery – MBac, responsible for the curation of the works in the Park, and is supported by Shopping Vitória and the City Hall of Vitória. According to educator and coordinator Fernanda Zardo, who developed ‘Reserva Arte’, the project's goal has been to provide schools with the opportunity for pedagogical experiences in spaces like the Parque Cultural Reserva Vitória. "It’s amazing to see education enhanced outside the classroom through these visits, and we believe that educational actions in these spaces complement the training process in the school environment. Therefore, we hope that the Park becomes part of the itinerary for school outings for the various possibilities involving art, education, culture, and the environment in the city," says Fernanda Zardo. The park and its works Inaugurated in 2021, the Park is an open space for the public that promotes exchange and experiences with art, and for this reason, seven contemporary artworks by current artists were selected to compose the space and bring visitors closer to the aesthetic experience and artistic processes of the artists. They are: • Door to a Beyond - by artist AdriannaEu • Karma - by artist Antonio Bokel • Vazante - by artist José Spaniol • Experiment Nido - by artist Sandro Novaes; • A Love Letter Straight to the Heart - by artist Thainan Castro • Liber - by artist Vilar • Randômica - by artist José Bechara The exhibited works encourage visitors to explore the space and the surrounding landscape, providing doors, windows, frames, and passages for various ways of looking at the city and experiencing art in its spaces. According to Lara Brotas, project director and co-founder of Matias Brotas, one of the project's creators and responsible for the curation of the works in the Park, it is a privilege to see students breathing art and connecting with and understanding public space, as the project also aims to encourage spaces like the Park to become democratic places for socialization. "Experiencing this is to make the Park a living organism of our city. That’s why it was created. To have a dialogue with society and this relationship of exchange and belonging," explains Lara Brotas. "It was a wonderful experience; the students prepared for this moment, asked questions, and were very happy and content with the attention and care they received. Actively participating in moments like these enhances the learning process for students. The students were very excited for the visit; it was their first physical contact to touch and appreciate what they had only seen in photos, textbooks, and videos. With a work of art, this becomes very significant for them and for us teachers. Providing moments of appreciation is very important for children; it opens space for sensitivity, reflection, and thinking about other possibilities for works, inspirations for their artistic productions in the classroom," said the teacher responsible for the EMEF Maria José Costa Moraes class during a visit on June 14, 2023. "The Parque Cultural Reserva Vitória is an important space for promoting and contemplating contemporary art in the capital of Espírito Santo. It features works produced by local and national artists, with free access. Shopping Vitória is a neighbor of the project. We are proud to be part of the park's history as a driving agent of the Reserva Arte project, which brings children and adolescents from municipal and state education networks closer to the universe of art," highlights Letícia Dalvi, Marketing Manager of Shopping Vitória. It is worth noting that during school visits, Shopping Vitória ensures the best possible access to restrooms in the internal areas during the visit, and a team of firefighters from Shopping Vitória conducts the reception of groups and emergency safety procedures.
