Insomnia and body pain are increasingly common issues, largely triggered by the fast-paced work environment and rising anxiety levels in the population. As a result, the search for massage therapy—a set of techniques aimed at improving quality of life and even reducing stress—has become a health topic, with the practice, which has ancient origins, already recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO). "By manipulating strategic areas of the body, the massage therapist can stimulate points of physical and mental pain, reducing the triggers of anxiety and stress, improving blood circulation, eliminating toxins from the body, and providing a sense of relaxation. Thus, it has helped many people who suffer, for example, from insomnia," commented the expert on the subject, Juliany Pelissari, who is the owner of Buddha SPA Vitória.

The explanation is that massage stimulates the sleep hormone and promotes the release of substances such as serotonin and melatonin, in addition to causing relaxation of the body muscles. All of this helps the patient to sleep better, achieving deep and restful sleep and even maintaining good humor and a sense of lightness. As for pain, which can be triggered by poor posture, sedentary lifestyle, muscle weakness, among other factors, and can occur at various levels of intensity, massage serves as a complementary treatment for symptom relief, helping to eliminate pain in the muscles, joints, and spine, as well as migraines, bursitis, arthritis, and arthrosis. "Among the main techniques for insomnia and pain are relaxing massages, therapeutic massages, foot reflexology, and shiatsu, which, through touch on specific areas of the body, provide relief. However, the techniques applied should be analyzed by the professional according to each patient," emphasized Juliany. In addition to relieving pain, massage therapy promotes well-being, improves immunity, blood circulation, and even impacts flexibility. When tension is reduced through massage, the muscles stop contracting, and the blood vessels relax, allowing blood to flow freely, delivering nutrients and the necessary oxygen to all organs and tissues in the body. There is the production of neuroendocrine substances, such as dopamine, which influences motor activity and mood; serotonin, which regulates attention, thoughts, and has calming effects, reducing irritability and regulating the sleep cycle; adrenaline and noradrenaline, which, when at low levels, make the individual slow and drowsy; endorphins, which affect mood, satiety, and modulate pain; and cortisol, whose imbalance has been linked to symptoms and diseases associated with stress, lack of immunity, and sleep disturbances. "The fact is that many people carry pain for years, investing much more time in work than in caring for their well-being. Many forget that the skin is the largest organ and also the most sensitive. Thus, massage, in addition to being a form of connection, bringing body awareness and self-knowledge, is also a form of affection, a breath amid chaos. The body is an instrument of work and life; however, to perform well, it needs to be in good physical and mental health," she taught.
