Accounting expert offers tips for local entrepreneurs to avoid financial impacts during these periods
For those with a formal job, 2020 will be a year of extended holidays, which means time off, rest, and travel for many, and, of course, the tourism market benefits. However, for local service entrepreneurs, from micro to large companies, holidays can signal despair as they may represent a drop in sales, decreased production, among other losses. But not everything is a loss. An expert provides tips for local entrepreneurs to prepare so they do not suffer as much financial impact and do not end up with negative balances.
According to accountant Emanueli Cristini, a specialist in management control and tax management at the EBITDAH office, the first step is to immediately create a financial plan, putting on paper all the holidays and what these days may represent in terms of sales decline, for example. "If a company knows how much it sells on average per day, it knows how much it will lose in sales on holidays. So it needs to create strategies to increase its sales targets spread throughout the year. This is not a simple task, but when planned from the beginning, the company may not feel the impacts of the holidays," she explains.
Another tip from the expert is to expand the company's sales channels, meaning that those who only sell physically can plan to make online sales. She clarifies that this also requires, of course, financial planning and cost analysis to define the feasibility of this other sales method.
Emanueli also explains that it is essential to conduct a tax review. One advantage is that with it, you can identify possible overpaid or improperly paid taxes and recover them. "With this, you can have cash to reinvest, and then you do not suffer as much from the loss of holiday money since you receive an unexpected amount back. A second advantage is identifying whether the current tax burden can be improved through existing benefits and tax incentives. This gives you a competitive advantage, as you can pay lower taxes according to current legislation," she adds.
